DethFX: Meet the American Band with Brazilian Roots

DethFX, an emerging band from Florida, is making waves in the music scene with their unique approach to Progressive Thrash Metal. Comprising three American musicians and one Brazilian, the band has been attracting the attention of both fans and critics within the metal community. Recently, they took part in an online festival hosted by the renowned magazine Roadie Crew, further solidifying their presence in the market.

The band has performed at several festivals across the United States and has earned the admiration of notable figures, including bassist Mike LePond, known for his work with Symphony X, and guitarist Bill Hudson, who boasts an extensive international career. The group recently released the track “Recycled Souls”, now available on YouTube.

History:

The story of DethFX began in mid-2021, when Brett Kaffenberger (bassist) met Raul S Collazo (vocalist and guitarist) in the Orlando area of Florida. Raul had posted an online advert seeking musicians to form a new band. After a few rehearsals playing cover songs, they teamed up with drummer Rob Tetro, also found through an advertisement.

Over time, the group decided to start composing their own music and felt the need to add another guitarist. In January 2022, Brett discovered Rod Mariani through an advert and invited him for an audition. With Rod’s successful addition, the group finally solidified as DethFX.

The band’s diversity of styles resulted in a unique sound they describe as Progressive Thrash Metal — a blend of traditional American thrash metal with elements of progressive heavy metal. DethFX cites influences such as Slayer, Overkill, Dream Theater, Trivium, Black Sabbath, Symphony X, Anthrax, Tool, Pantera, Sepultura, Lamb of God, Soilwork, and Between the Buried and Me.

DethFX are:

• Raul S Collazo – Vocals and Guitar
• Brett Kaffenberger – Bass and Backing Vocals
• Rob Tetro – Drums
• Rod Mariani – Guitar
