Mariah Carey\u00a0has been looking back on her album\u00a0Music Box, which just celebrated its\u00a030th anniversary\u00a0on\u00a0 August 31.\u00a0On Instagram, she posted a clip of herself reflecting on the impact and legacy of \u201cHero,\u201d one of her most enduring hits from that album. \u201c\u2018Hero\u2019 was such a big record \u2026 that kind of took on its own life after 9\/11 and we [were] all doing our best, I feel, as entertainers, trying to make people feel better,\u201d Mariah says.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the terror attacks in 2001, she sang \u201cHero\u201d on the\u00a0America: A Tribute to Heroes\u00a0telethon; that October, she released a new version of it, recorded as a medley with her song \u201cNever Too Far,\u201d as a charity single. \u201cIt\u2019s not my favorite,\u201d she goes on to admit. \u201cAnd I say that only because I think I\u2019ve written songs that are more, like, heart-wrenching and miserable, whereas \u2018Heroes\u2019 is more like trying to be uplifting, which is great.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She adds, \u201cTypically, I guess I might like the miserable ones. I don\u2019t know!\u201d Mariah is, however, \u201cmost proud of where it\u2019s kind of gone in the world and what people have sung it.\u201d \u201cI mean,\u00a0Aretha Franklin\u00a0actually sang that song.\u00a0Luciano Pavarotti\u00a0\u2026\u00a0having him singing in Italian and I\u2019m singing in English,\u201d she says. \u201cI pretty much always kind of have to do\u00a0[the song live]\u2026I\u2019ve done it so many different times,\u201d she concludes. \u201cSo now we just do it differently and zhuzh it a little bit here and there and add new parts.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
